Harambee Starlets begin their campaign to qualify for the 2018 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations against neighbours Uganda’s Crested Cranes in their first round first leg play-off match slated for Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Wednesday.
Starlets returning coach David Ouma, who took over from Richard Kanyi last month, is optimistic that his charges will start on a high note as they seek a ticket for the continental showpiece set for Ghana from November 17 to December 1.
The team has been in camp in Machakos for a month now and gauged their readiness with a 3-0 win over hosts Zambia She-Polopolo in a friendly match on March 25 in Kitwe.
“The match against Zambia was an opportunity to gauge our strengths and weaknesses ahead of this game. I am happy that my players gave a good account of themselves,” Ouma said on Tuesday.
The former Sofapaka boss added: “I am confident we will get a positive result tomorrow (Wednesday).”
The aggregate winner after the return leg on Sunday in Uganda meets Equatorial Guinea in the second and final qualification round.
